Consistent surf and pristine barrels
The Thaa Atoll picks up a lot of straight souths to south east swell, and in stable weather conditions, makes for an enjoyable ride. You will get consistent surf and pristine barrels. Medium sized waves are the go. Some of the stand-out spots include Finnimas, Mikados (one of the prettiest surf spots in the world), These waves will keep everyone happy from the hard-core barrel charger on a performance short board to the weekend warrior on a fun board. At several locations there are options of differing degrees of intensity (rights & lefts).
Inside Farms
Mikado has hollow walls that produce great barrels for a surf. Pumping it gives you a surf worth being remembered for a lifetime. Absolutely ideal at mid- to high tide with a medium size southwest swell and a southwest wind. This wave doesn’t really work well on a low tide, however when mid to high tide makes an appearance, it has the potential to deliver a total game changer.
Outside Farms

Right & left
On the other side of the channel is a fast, shallow left hander. It’s a bit fickle, but with a southwest swell and a northeast wind (or no wind at all) it will get you nicely barreled. With a solid swell and a west or southwest wind, a peaky right hander forms across the channel.
Left & occasional right
Bowling Alley is one of the best spots to find great left handers in a truly picturesque setting. Inside the reef channel on the west side of the atoll, this peak produces a fun left hander, and occasionally a right. Works on any tide with a small to medium southwest swell, but it’s best with northeast to southeast winds which are not prevalent.
Fast left
On the outer edge of the same reef channel, this wave also works best on a southeast wind and a southwest swell. A good day at Malik’s means you’ll be graced with a quick moving left hander that can range anywhere from 3-10 feet, complemented with crystal Maldivian barrels.

Dhaalu Atoll is located on the western side of the Maldives and picks up south and south west swells. Maroufs or Kasabu is just across the channel and offers a quality right hand break when wind conditions are light or from the north west.
Spots in the Laamu Atoll are spread from the south facing coastline along the east facing up to the north east corner where waves wrap around. As a result, you will find spots protected from all wind directions except a rare straight easterly breeze.
